In June 2021 a Provisional Patent was granted for a unique meniscal repair device designed by Dr Lawrie. This device may revolutionise meniscal repair, having a number of design features that have not been seen in other devices currently on the market. The device is in the pre-production stage in Germany, with a prototype hopefully being ready for testing in the near future. Dr Lawrie has been working in collaboration with Dr John Maguire of Townsville as well as a local orthopaedic company to get the device through to a successful commercially available prosthesis. Dr Lawrie is hopeful that this device will enable more surgeons to preserve knee function by repairing more meniscal tears rather than removing tears at the time of arthroscopy.
