Joint Replacement Surgery

Joint replacement surgery is a special interest of Dr Lawrie’s. He has had extensive training and experience in joint replacement surgery as well as complex reconstructive and revision surgical procedures.

The best outcome is produced when the surgeon understands the advantages and limitations of traditional techniques as well as the myriad of new technologies available today, such as computer assisted surgery (CAS), minimally invasive surgery (MIS), new bearing surfaces (ceramics, metal alloys, hard plastics) and newer revision prostheses.

There is no one perfect technique or device for joint replacement surgery at this point in time. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. By taking into account each patients needs, the type of arthritis and their bone quality etc., the patient and Dr Lawrie can choose the most appropriate surgery for your situation; in effect, customising the procedure to suite the patients individual requirements.
