Arthroscopic Surgery

Arthroscopy or key-hole surgery involves inserting a telescope into the joint which is attached to a video monitor, allowing complete visualisation of the joint.

Fine instruments can be placed into the joint to allow treatment of various conditions found in the joint.

Arthroscopy of the knee is a very common procedure. Many techniques are available to treat a number of common conditions within the knee.

Dr Lawrie has undertaken extensive training in arthroscopic surgery and he has extensive experience in this type of surgery. He is a member of ISAKOS (International Society of Arthroscopy Knee surgery and Orthopaedic Sports medicine) which is the international society at the forefront of arthroscopic surgery.

Dr Lawrie commonly performs many arthroscopic procedures about the knee, such as cartilage tears, cartilage repairs, cruciate ligament reconstruction, cartilage transplant, patellar surgery and arthritis surgery. Dr Lawrie also performs arthroscopic surgery of the hip, ankle and elbow for various conditions.

Arthroscopy is generally performed as a day surgery procedure. It is safe and reliable which leads to faster recovery and a better outcome
